One of the most effective ways to document and appreciate this history is through photography. A single photograph has the power to capture the essence of a moment, freezing it in time for future generations to enjoy. By photographing historical sites, landmarks, and artifacts, we can ensure that these stories are not forgotten.

But how can we make sure our photos truly do justice to Ontario's history? It all starts with research. Before embarking on your photo journey, take the time to learn about the places you plan to visit. Dig into their significance, uncover any lesser-known facts, and familiarize yourself with the stories that make them special. Armed with this knowledge, you'll be better able to capture the essence of these locations and convey their historical significance through your images.

Once you're on the road, be sure to keep your eyes open for any hidden gems. While the major historical sites are well-documented, there are often smaller, lesser-known treasures waiting to be discovered. These could be abandoned buildings, forgotten cemeteries, or even artifacts tucked away in unexpected places. By exploring these off-the-beaten-path locations, you can uncover fragments of history that others may have overlooked.

As you photograph these sites, think about the stories that they hold. Who were the people that once walked these streets? What events transpired within these walls? By incorporating elements of storytelling into your photos, you can bring these stories to life and engage viewers on a deeper level.

Another way to add a historical twist to your photography is by capturing images with a vintage feel. Consider experimenting with different editing techniques that can give your photos an aged or sepia tone. This can help evoke a sense of nostalgia and transport viewers back in time, allowing them to imagine what life was like during a particular era.

And don't forget about the people! Ontario's history is not just about buildings and artifacts; it's also about the individuals who shaped it. Seek out opportunities to photograph locals who have witnessed the changing landscape of their communities, capturing their recollections and stories in the process. These personal narratives add a unique and intimate layer to your photographic documentation.

In the age of digital photography, it's tempting to snap hundreds of photos without a second thought. However, when it comes to documenting Ontario's history, quality is more important than quantity. Take the time to compose your shots thoughtfully, paying attention to framing, lighting, and composition. Remember, each photo you take has the potential to become part of the historical record, so make it count.

Once you've taken your photos, don't let them gather dust on your hard drive. Share them with the world! Publish them in local newspapers, submit them to historical archives, or even organize exhibitions to showcase the history you've captured. By sharing your images, you're not only preserving Ontario's history but also inspiring others to do the same.

So, the next time you find yourself cruising through Ontario, take a moment to think about the historical significance of your surroundings. Grab your camera, explore the nooks and crannies of the province, and capture the stories that deserve to be told. By saving our history one photo at a time, we can ensure that the vibrant past of Ontario continues to thrive in the present and inspire future generations.

Tillsonburg is a town in Oxford County located about 50 kilometers southeast of London on Highway 3 at the junction of Highway 19 which connects to Highway 401.The area was settled in 1825 by George Tillson and other immigrants from Massachusetts. A forge and sawmill were erected and roads built which led to the establishment of a settlement on the Big Otter Creek originally called Dereham Forge. In 1836 the village was renamed Tillsonburg in honor of its founder. It was also in this year that the main street, Broadway, was laid out to its full 100-foot (30 meter) width. Because the village was predominantly a logging and wood product center, the street width was to accommodate the turning of three-team logging wagons. This width has become a benefit toward handling the pressures of modern-day traffic by providing angled parking. The extension of Broadway north was called Plank Line and is now known as Highway 19.The water system supplied pure water for domestic use, and provided water power to such industries as a sawmill, planing mill, grist mill, spinning mill, pottery and a tannery. Many of these new establishments were owned, started, or financed by George Tillson. In 1915, a Public Library was built with funds provided by the Carnegie Foundation, and the town's Memorial Hospital was constructed in 1925. In the 1920s, major enterprises included milk production, manufacture of shoes, tractors, textiles and tobacco.
