The Far Shore, first published in 1960, is a classic account of the Allied D-Day landings in France in June 1944 by U.S. Navy Admiral and popular author Edward Ellsberg (1891-1983). Described in detail are the massive preparations for the invasion, the Nazi defenses along the Normandy beaches, and the ingenious creation of the Mulberry artificial floating harbor which would prove vital in securing the Allied beachhead in France.
