Have you ever experienced a moment so intense that you feel like time stands still? A moment when you hold your breath because you don't want to miss a single second? That's how it feels when I think of you while holding my breath. It's a powerful and intoxicating mix of love, longing, and anticipation that takes you on an unforgettable journey.

Life is full of unexpected encounters and serendipitous moments. Sometimes, the universe has a way of bringing two souls together, and when it happens, it's magical. It's as if everything falls into place, and you realize that there's something bigger at play. That's how it was when I met you, and ever since that moment, you've consumed my thoughts and taken over my dreams.

Thinking of you while holding my breath is not just a physical act; it's a manifestation of the deep connection we share. It's the feeling of being completely present in the moment, immersed in the intensity of our love. In those precious seconds, everything else fades away, and it's just you and me, entwined in a dance of emotions.

Every time I think of you, my heart skips a beat. It's a rush of adrenaline and emotions that cannot be contained. I hold my breath because I want to hold onto that feeling for as long as possible. It's a way of preserving the intensity and the purity of our love. With each breath held, our bond grows stronger, and the memories we create become etched deeper into our souls.

When I hold my breath and think of you, my mind becomes a canvas where our love story unfolds. I see the moments we've shared, the laughter, the tears, and the countless whispers of affection. I see the adventures we've embarked on together, hand in hand, ready to conquer the world. It's a beautiful tapestry woven with the threads of passion, trust, and understanding.

The power of thoughts is undeniable. When we think of someone with intense emotions, we send out waves of energy that can transcend time and space. It's like a silent message that reaches the person we hold dear, connecting our hearts even when physically apart. So, when I hold my breath and think of you, I know that somewhere out there, in the vastness of this world, you are feeling my love too.

The beauty of thinking of you while holding my breath is in the anticipation it creates. It's like a glimpse into the future, a preview of the countless moments we will share. It's the fuel that drives our dreams, the motivation to make every second count. It's a reminder that no matter what challenges we face, our love will prevail, and together, we can overcome anything.

Love is a complex and ever-evolving journey. It's not always smooth sailing, but the moments that take our breath away make it all worthwhile. When we find someone who makes us feel alive, who brings out the best version of ourselves, we hold onto them with all our might. We cherish them, protect them, and we think of them when we hold our breath.

So, let us cherish these moments of holding our breath and thinking of each other. Let us embrace the power of our love and allow it to guide us through the highs and lows. Because when we think of each other while holding our breath, we create an unbreakable bond that transcends the barriers of time and distance. And in that space between breaths, our love lives on forever.

Think of you when I hold my breath - a simple phrase that encapsulates an entire world of emotions. It's a declaration of love, a reminder of the depth of our connection. So, let's hold our breath together and embark on this beautiful journey of love, where every moment is cherished, and every thought is a testament to our everlasting bond.

Written by Lara Abuali when she was twelve, I Think of You When I Hold My Breath is a coming-of-age debut collection of verse exploring life changes, infatuation, prejudice, landscapes, and alienation. Every poem in this book has something forbidden in its centre, an implied idea or a blunt mention of taboos. Lara's words can take delicate steps but sometimes they come out stomping. There are secrets to discover in the lines.

Lara, who is Palestinian-Canadian, was born and raised in Hong Kong, and now lives in Jordan and Switzerland. A keen creative writer since the age of six, Lara was awarded the Scholastic Gold Key Award in 2018 by the US Alliance for Young Artists & Writers for her poetry collection Sleepless. Her work was selected from among more than 346,000 submissions as “the most outstanding work submitted in your region.”

Lara's upcoming poetry collection is called The Yellow of August.

Poem from I Think of You When I Hold My Breath:

PARTY LIFE

hurried steps on concrete paths
oh, hopeless loves:
oh, hopeless lives:
a life of indifference.
miscommunication.
disconnection.
slivers of fame are
all I see through banded sunglasses.
blurred, bitten,
unheard through streamers of screamed solos:
unheard through the ignorance of emerald islands.
you think, you wonder, you observe but you are
hopelessly bewitched.
you’ll keep picking apples from dead trees
while hope falls like dust from their cyanide-laced seeds.
