I am Ka the falcon, and I soar high over mountain crags and bush. I see much. My ancestors say Gondwanaland broke into smaller parts and New Zealand’s outline began to take shape.
We nested high in the hills of the Coromandel Peninsula and saw the coming of the waaka of the first people. Then the second people arrived in their tall ships. We saw friendships form and the outbreak of wars, trees were felled and gold mined, and a nation was forged.
From the writer: This unique story is told through the eyes and memory of Ka, a New Zealand falcon, of the formation and settlement of Aotearoa/New Zealand, and in particular the Coromandel Peninsula and Tairua where I live.
