No role in life is as rewarding and joyous as being a grandparent. It’s a chance to relive the magic of childhood through the eyes of your precious grandchildren. Being an awesome grandparent not only strengthens the bond between you and your grandchildren, but it also leaves a lasting impact on their lives. If you want to make the most of your grandparenting journey, here are 10 tips that will help you be an incredible grandparent.

1. Shower Them With Love and Affection

Grandparents have an endless amount of love to give, and it's essential to show your grandchildren just how much they mean to you. Shower them with warmth, cuddles, and plenty of hugs and kisses. The love you give them will shape their emotional well-being and give them a strong sense of security.

3. Share Your Wisdom

You have a wealth of knowledge and experiences that can greatly benefit your grandchildren. Share your stories, teach them life lessons, and pass on your skills. By sharing your wisdom, you not only impart valuable information but also create a lasting legacy that will be treasured for generations to come.

4. Create Traditions

Traditions hold a special place in a child's heart and provide a sense of stability and continuity. Establishing traditions with your grandchildren will create fond memories that they will cherish throughout their lives. Whether it's a weekly baking session, a yearly family vacation, or a special bedtime story, creating traditions will strengthen your bond.

5. Encourage Their Passions

Every child has unique talents and passions waiting to be discovered. As a grandparent, it's your role to encourage and support their interests. Whether it's painting, dancing, or playing a musical instrument, be their biggest cheerleader. By nurturing their passions, you will help them build confidence and develop a sense of self-worth.

6. Embrace Technology

In this digital age, keeping up with technology is crucial to stay connected with your grandchildren. Learn to use social media, video call apps, or any other tech tools that will allow you to interact with them even when you're physically apart. Embracing technology will bridge the generation gap and make it easier for you to be a part of their lives.

7. Be Respectful

Respect is the foundation of any relationship, and this holds true for the grandparent-grandchild bond as well. Respect their parents' rules and parenting style, even if it differs from your own. By being respectful and avoiding conflicts, you create a harmonious environment that benefits everyone involved, especially your grandchildren.

8. Be Open-Minded

Times change, and parenting approaches evolve over generations. As a grandparent, it's important to be open-minded and adapt to new ways of raising children. Stay informed about the latest child-rearing practices and be willing to embrace new ideas. Your willingness to learn and adapt will strengthen your relationship with your grandchildren and their parents.

9. Be a Safe Haven

Life can be tough, and sometimes your grandchildren might face challenges or struggles. Be their safe haven, a listening ear, and a shoulder to lean on. Provide unconditional love, support, and guidance during difficult times. Being a solid rock in their lives will give them the strength to overcome any obstacles they encounter.

10. Have Fun!

Lastly, the most important tip of all is to have fun! Let your inner child come alive and embrace the joy of being a grandparent. Laugh, play, and create magical memories together. Remember, it's not just about being awesome; it's about enjoying every moment you spend with your grandchildren and creating a bond that will last a lifetime.

Being an awesome grandparent is a journey filled with love, joy, and the purest form of happiness. By following these 10 tips, you'll be well on your way to creating an incredible grandparent-grandchild bond that will endure for generations to come. So, go out there and embrace the joy of being an awesome grandparent!

from the
We have a new grandchild this week. She is perfect in every way and oh so beautiful. But just as each child is different, each grandparenting experience is different, well let us say grandparenting with each of our adult children is different. So I am reminded of the lessons the Lord has shown me so far. And since y’all like to read along as I remember such things I thought I would make this tidy little list. This started out as a list but has now grown into a book. It grew and grew and grew. If you notice it isn’t 10 tips anymore, but I kept the title because it sounded good. This ebook is still somewhat short and sweet, but this is still good stuff . It is good because when God talks to me it is never a waste of time.
I pray that this is just a beginning in your journey of hearing Him as He teaches us all how to be an awesome grandparent.
It has been said that the best thing you can do for your child is to love your spouse. Well the same is true for grandchildren. The best thing you can do for your grandchildren is to love their parents, both of them.
If you want happy grandchildren, then do all you can to give them happy parents.
I have noticed folks most often have two views of Grandparenting.
#1 says, “yay! I am a Grandparent and I get to take these kids and exercise no self-control, spoil them rotten, hype them up, overindulge them, spoil them rotten, make myself look like the hero in their lives, spoil them rotten, go against every rule with rhyme or reason that their parents give them, teach them no responsibility for their actions, spoil them rotten, and when they become total brats, I can send them home with their parents who have now pulled all their own hair out and go on to my next selfish adventure.”
#2 goes like this. “I love God. I am grateful for the children He has given me. I am even more thankful that He has now given my children their own children, and my heart is overflowing. I want to be a blessing to them and not a burden.”
The first train of thought was a serious run-on sentence on purpose, because that is what life feels like when you put yourself first. Selfishness is in a hurry to get what it can before it gets caught. Before it takes a breath, before God Himself says “whoa nelly. “
If you can relate to scenario #1 but want to change keep reading. If not go ahead and return this book and get a refund. If you relate to #2 we are really in business here, read along and feel free to share with me too.
